Lina Brennen has never had a home. Whenever people find out about her powers, they either shun her or the media hounds her, and she has to move. She tries to hide what she is, but she is too soft hearted. Eventually someone is hurt, and she can’t help but heal them. Her only companion is the ghost of her dead great-great-grandmother Merona, who she calls Granna. Unfortunately, talking to ghosts that no one else can see also makes her stand out. She has given up hope of ever having a home and a family. When the media start hounding her in Chicago, she packs up and heads out, looking for the next town and the next job. Driving through Arizona, Granna notices Unegi, and declares they should try it. The little town doesn’t look as promising to Lina, but they need gas, so she stops anyway.

When Lina literally falls into Sheriff Trent Godfrey’s arms, Trent can’t believe his good luck. When he finds out the attractive woman is thinking of staying, he makes sure to offer her the apartment for rent above the sheriff’s office. He definitely wants to get to know Lina better. Luckily, his mom runs the local diner and is always looking for help. Now Lina is willing to give Unegi a try. If only he can get Lina to give him a try, too. Unfortunately, as they get to know each other better, he realizes she is into mystical stuff. Even though he is the descendant of an Indian shaman, Trent doesn’t want to have anything to do with mysticism.

I loved this book. The depth of emotion that these characters go through touched me. Lina has been through so much heartbreak from people’s constant judgment. Trent has been equally scarred from a traumatic past. Trent’s daughter Jess is sweet, smart, and curious. I loved the mystical aspects of the story. Granna is a hoot. The romance between Lina and Trent engrossed me with its depth, warmth, and complexity. It touched me so much that I cried. Thank you Leanne Karella & Vivienne King for this truly wonderful book. I truly hope you continue writing.
