Broken Wings

At the death of her father, Meghan has just become the Lady of Moresworth Hall. Devastated at the loss, Meghan is horrified to learn that she has been given in a betrothal to Lord Stratton. Denying Stratton herself, Meagan evokes his anger and learns quickly that he is an abusive man. Enduring years of abuse leaves her bruised both inside and out; Meghan can take no more and kills her husband. Only Meghan doesn’t stay around long enough to see that Lord Stratton is not dead, instead she runs for her life believing she committed murder. Days and days of traveling leave Meghan exhausted and weak. When she can go no further, Meghan falls broken in spirit and body to the ground.

Lord Galen Thorne decides to do something he hasn’t in a long time: enjoy a day with his brother. Startled by a noise, he investigates his surroundings only to find a small but battered child. Gathering her into his arms, he takes her home with him. Only upon arriving at his manor does Galen learn this is no mere child in his arms. Oh no, what he has found is an utterly beautiful woman who takes his breath away even under the dirt and bruises. Galen has no time for love in his life nor does he need it, instead he keeps his heart locked away and is set to marry for duty, honor, and land. Now if he could just get his thoughts and body to stop revolving around Meghan.

Meghan awakens to find herself safe inside Lord Galen’s home. Surrounded by his presence, Meghan struggles to understand the desires running though her body. Galen wants Meghan with a fierce hunger and is determined to win her affection. The only problem is the fact that Galen is betrothed to someone else and Meghan, being of royal upbringing, will not take what is not hers. With each moment they spend together, Meghan’s desire to have Galen as her own grows and she must fight to keep her true identity and secrets from being discovered. Galen has just as difficult a time understanding why his heart has softened towards a woman with secrets she won’t share. Will Meghan’s secrets be exposed? If they are, will she be protected or tossed out? Will Galen fight to have Meghan or take the one betrothed to him?

Broken Wings is the first medieval historical that this reader has experienced. I have to admit that I was amazed with the wonderful writing and its ability to throw me back in time. Meghan is actually what Lord Galen says she is, a little dove. She has a beautiful spirit and personality that this reader enjoyed watching take flight and soar above all the horrors she has experienced. Galen has a hard exterior and rules with compassion and consideration for those in his lands, but underneath his gruff and intoxicating shell is a man whose heart is full of love, if only he would open the door. An array of secondary characters brings the story to life, adding many emotions that will have readers engrossed within the pages. Leanne Karella has crafted a heartfelt story laced with danger, uncertainty, and difficult decisions for more than one character. With a title that could not have been more appropriate, Broken Wings brings two broken hearts together, causing them to soar above the clouds. 5 Angels & a Recommended Read!
