My Shadow, My Love
No sooner than Cassie Dahlgren completes her police training, she finds it isn’t easy to locate work. After she gets employment working with horses at a stable, she witnesses a murder. This evidence does not sit well with her boss, so Cassie is soon referred to an agency for protection. Now that she has to hide, she finds herself with people known as Technicians, a law enforcement that wasn’t the police. Rick Jarrett works with the technicians. He is older than Cassie and is considered a seasoned technician. As soon as he meets Cassie, he finds himself trying to fight the strong attraction that draws him to her. She has respect for truth and honor like him, and he respects her for that. He feels that his feelings might get in the way, so he decides to send her to a safe house where she can be protected with another couple he knows well. Rick soon learns that sending Cassie away doesn’t help matters. He has to be with her, and when he learns that Cassie holds the same sensations, nothing can stop him from being with her. Before Cassie can even feel safe again in the real world, Rick has to find a way to keep her sheltered from her former boss. With danger lurking about for Cassie, Rick has to work hard if he wishes a lifetime with the woman he loves. And when the protected must rely on the protector, Rick hopes there will be no disastrous results.
My Shadow, My Love is a delicious read. Cassie is a refreshing character that lends great believability to the storyline. Rick oozes with electric charm that rips from the pages when he is confronted with Cassie and his velvety voice rumbles through the pages. The dialogue between the two is tight and keeps the readers interest. I just loved their banter. Ms. Horton creates a suspenseful tale that kept this reader on the edge of the seat. One minute it is like things are over, then bingo, she throws a curveball and things heat up again. The characters of Rick and Cassie are wonderfully fashioned and leave an impression with the reader. They feel so alive, so genuine in every thing they do. The secondary characters blend in well making this suspense a page-turner that is hard to put down. I really thought it was a very compelling read.
