At sixteen, Kara Procter is an excellent thief. But when caught in the act, at a gallery trying to pull off a heist, and is shot by a security guard, she learns that a bullet piercing the skin does not feel wonderful. When offered a state-of-the-art job with ACORP, working on the right side of the law, to stay out of jail, she gives it some thought especially when her father suddenly disappears. Lachlan Mitchell, hit man and thief, is employed by Kara’s father. He can’t allow Kara to unravel his secrets. Instead, he dons the cover of a financial advisor. It’s a nice disguise until Kara’s elusive training is over and she finds herself as ACORP’s leading agent on a case which leads her to learn a bit more about Lachlan after she has the pleasure of meeting him. She knows there is much more to the man’s cover, but there is nothing really solid she can expose. All she recognizes is the warm heat she feels for him when he is near but her job takes precedence. No matter how hard she tries, he is still embedded under her skin. When another heist sends her once again to him, she learns new developments concerning Lachlan. Together, what they feel for each other sets off sparks that could end up with disastrous situations as Lachlan has his hands full keeping secrets and Kara searches for answers concerning her father.

The Heist is one electrifying page-turner. I immediately fell in love with the character of Kara and when she connects with Lachlan, fireworks explode just by simple contact. Not only do they share intense dialogue and a terrific chemistry that allows the reader to practically feel their every emotion, but also the whole storyline surrounding them is extraordinaire. Ms. MacCarrick spins a well-crafted plot, refreshing secondary characters, and some exceptional action-packed twists and turns. With a hint of danger, some lingering suspense and two dynamite main characters, this incredible story blows this reader away with such creativity that screams for more from Kara and Lachlan. This one is a winner!
