The Phoenix Rebellion Book II: Outcasts
The Areth, an alien race, would have the Earth people believe they are there to help, when instead they wish humans for experiments. A group of people known as the Phoenix group have joined as freedom fighters to fight the Areth, after they were once captured by the Areth. Victor, at one time was Areth, but now seeks to aid some of the captives. After giving them some information to use against the Areth, he suddenly contracts an unexplained strange illness.
Beverly Surimoto, a psychic, seems to understand. She feels that because of his betrayal to the Areth, the dark evil invades his body. Beverly is able to soothe his mind, but even after they begin to feel an attraction he knows the dark evil will never leave him because of his disloyalty.
Nick Tanner, another freedom fighter knows there is help out there. Thanks to Victor, his son, Michael had been set free from the captors. Nick boards a spaceship, and heads light years away to another race that knows much about the Areth. No matter what anyone thinks, Michael feels Victor is a good friend and is indebted to him. Nick keeps in touch, from the spaceship, with his fiancé CJ, as well as Michael. The whole ordeal is in itself slowly driving Nick crazy, but thoughts of his family keep him going. But even as Nick seeks help, the freedom fighters on earth that are no longer captives, begin to take matters into their hands. The danger thickens for all, as time slowly runs out for Nick and the others.
The Phoenix Rebellion, Book II: Outcasts is the second book in the series. The characters are well-developed and the reader can practically feel the intensity that surrounds them as they seek to find peace in their lives again. I liked the way Michael suddenly transformed from a young boy to a man, as situations began to develop around him and his family. The love between Beverly and Victor reaches out and touches the reader. I could feel the heartache that they experienced during this grave time. As Nick travels into space, my heart went out to him, as he was almost trapped in a no win situation. Ms. Delaney has once again created a fabulous book that takes a thrilling ride into a world that only wishes their freedom. This terrific science fiction tale is remarkably written and incredibly detailed. Be prepared to be captivated by another excellent winner by Ms. Delaney.
