After Dark by L.M. Prieto is a homoerotic paranormal tale. When the story begins, we find Andrew Sutter at his brother, Tyler's funeral with his sister-in-law Julia, her son Sean and his lover Devon. In most situations this would be sad, however there are very mixed feelings from the attendees. We soon learn that Tyler somehow caused the death of Andrew’s first lover and that the relationship between Tyler and Andrew is not a happy one. Ever since his brothers demise, Andrew has been getting his things in order for the inevitable arrest, but that didn’t happen as he forethought. Andrew finally couldn’t stand it any more and broke down and told Devon that he was responsible for Tyler’s death. When Devon asked him why, Andrew told Devon that Tyler had threatened Devon and that led to Andrew revealing at least some of his pas. Andrew keeps having flashbacks about the abuse he had taken from his brother, but he didn’t understand why Tyler did the things that he did. Andrew shows Devon his scars and explains where they came from. Instead of walking away, Devon rallies behind him and supportes Andrew in validating his feelings. This led to some revelations from Devon which led into a very erotic scene between Andrew and Devon.

Next, Andrew is woken up by a disturbing phone call from his nephew Sean and Julia where he is told that his brother Tyler is alive and in their home. Andrew talks to Tyler and is told that Tyler needs either him or Sean. Andrew rushes to their home, but it is too late for Julia and Sean is missing. The inevitable confrontation took place, but the outcome is completely different then anyone could imagine. He learned why his brother acted is certain ways even though the behavior was not acceptable to society. Andrew finds the strength to oppose Tyler to protect Devon and unknowingly this act gains him the knowledge he needs that may help him to protect the ones he loves. What is so special that could bring Tyler back from the dead? Will Andrew and Devon find a way to overcome Tyler to find their happy ever after?

Ms. Prieto fashioned a very interesting book. The use of ancient magic in a modern world while working in paranormal aspects was fascinating. I thought that it was attention-grabbing that both Drew and Devon were keeping secrets, but once revealed each accepted the other with love and devotion. The erotic scenes were not only hot, but also at times sweet. I think that the book would have been more compelling if the story line had continued. At the end, all the characters finally learned things about themselves, but the readers never learned what happened next. How did Andrew and Devon adjust to their new world and each other? Maybe Ms. Prieto could write a sequel to tie up the loose ends. Thanks to Ms. Prieto for an interesting read.
