Soul Mates: Bound By Blood by Jourdan Lane is a erotic paranormal story. We first meet Pete who is bartending at the club Rave and is covetously watching Pete's idea of the perfict stud dancing. He finally works up the courage to approach him, but after one dance he disappears, literally! Another day Pete is approached by a patron who we learn is a vampire and Pete gets spooked because of a bad experience at another local bar. Ever since then he has stayed as far away from vampires as he can. Pete ran into his dream man, Lucien, only to fine out that Lucien was not human but a vampire. Pete is sexually attracted and repelled by Lucien all at the same time.

After finding out from his friend Jack that Vampires can’t enter a home unless they were invited, he learns that Lucien was the Master Vampire in the area and the owner of The Den; not someone that Pete should mess around with. Jack went home with Pete and released some sexual frustrations, but afterwards Pete had a terrible feeling that he had lost something. Pete either had one night stands or an occasional night with Jack, but now he knows that something was missing. In spite of himself, Pete kept looking for and daydreaming about Lucien.

The next time Pete sees Lucien, Lucien kind of manipulates Pete into letting him inside to talk about what happened that one night. Pete learns that Lucien doesn’t understand about the dream either and he is looking into it. Lucien thinks that they are some how linked and that somehow that caused him to visit Pete in their sleep. Lucien is very concerned about what Pete is feeling and this is completely different than what Pete saw the night he visited The Den. As they get to know each other better, Pete feels the link between them getting stronger and he gives into his initial feelings. The scene is very sweet. Lucien abides by Petes wishes to keep it slow even though Lucien’s feelings are way past that stage. Will Pete overcome his hesitancy toward vampires to further his relationship with Lucien? What exactly is Lucien’s world really like? Will Pete and Lucien find a way to combine their two worlds into one?

Ms. Lane created not just a book, but also a new world for the reader. There are many vampire books out, but none as comprehensive as this one is. I liked how the story was written in the point of view of both Pete and Lucien. That way the reader is able to get inside the minds of many of the characters and understand the motivation behind their actions. Lucien is not your average vampire in some aspects, but in others he is the consummate master! Watching Pete overcome his fears regarding vampires and then enter Lucien’s world was inspiring. Most people would have a very hard time to just overcome their fears, but to go as far as Pete went is unique. The erotic scenes between many of the characters added depth and sometimes hilarity to the storyline. Ms. Lane did a phenomenal job on this book, but she also left it a little open ended for a possible sequel. This reader would love to read more about the adventures of the characters in Soul Mates.
