Stray Cat Strut

Saul Sinclair, Middlemarch native, wants the same thing as any other shifter. A mate. Being feline, Saul craves a companion, a lover. He would like nothing more than to find his mate. Where he differs from the other shifters is in the type of mate he’s on the prowl for. They are looking for a female. He is searching for a male. Being gay is his closest kept secret, one he is tired of hiding – especially since his father keeps nagging him on the topic of finding a woman and settling down.

When he snaps and confesses all, his father disowns him. Yet, this provides him with the opportunity to meet Lucas. Had he not been kicked out of his own home he wouldn’t have left Middlemarch. If he hadn’t left, he wouldn’t have come across Lucas in a club. From the start Saul feels more strongly of Lucas than he ever has anyone else. But with Lucas’s trip being short lived will there be enough time for anything to come of a relationship between them? And what are the secrets of Lucas and his sister?

When Stray Cat Strut came up for review I snapped it up quicker than you could blink. Why? One plain and simple fact: you can’t go wrong with Shelley Munro. Her books are never a disappointment; always a pleasure. In particular, I love her Middlemarch Mates series, of which Stray Cat Strut is the third. Whilst the first two are novel length and traditional M/F, Stray Cat Strut is a novella with a M/M storyline. This may put some readers off, but not me! Oh no! Of course, it helps that I’m a M/M fan. Just the thought of two hot guys getting together…*shudders*. Anyway, back to the book. Stray Cat Strut is told entirely from Saul’s point of view and takes an unexpected, heartrending twist. Saul’s dismissal from his family will also tug on your heartstrings. Both Lucas and Saul are strong characters who are well developed, as are the secondary characters. The flow of the tale is consistent and smooth. There doesn’t feel as if there is a gaping hole in the plot. The sex is described, though not crudely. Neither Lucas nor Saul are submissive, rather taking it in turns to be the dominator when they have sex. They are equals in all ways. It was fun to briefly revisit Middlemarch and I look forward to the next Middlemarch Mates tale, which will hopefully take up where Stray Cat Strut has left off. Stray Cat Strut is very enjoyable and I recommend it to all Munro, shifter and M/M fans.
