Fresh Blood

Erica Talbot just wants to continue leading a nice, normal life. She is a conservative, life insurance claims adjuster who prefers to be a loner. As usual, her twin sister Elena calls her in panic, leaving a static message on her answering machine. When Erica hears the message about Elena being at a vampire club and needing help to escape, she realizes this is even more serious than previous calls. Her entire life it seems as if she has been trying to save Elena from the fast life she is consistently drawn to. The idea that Elena may have become a captive feeder for the vampires leaves Erica sick with disgust. She decides to go undercover as a feeder, to search out the many vampire clubs to see if she can spot Elena. After a tangle with a bouncer named Frank, she is rescued by vampire investigator Maxwell Hart. He tries to discourage Erica from entering a world that is dangerous and not fo! r the innocent like her. They reach an agreement that she will become his submissive feeder in pretense so together they can search for her sister. This is when things really begin to change for Erica. She discovers an enjoyment in being Maxwell's submissive and feeder in reality. Maxwell tries to guard his heart from her, for Erica makes him feel human again, something he has not felt in one hundred and seventeen years. Besides the turmoil of emotions each feels about this odd love affair is the truth that comes out about Elena and her circumstances.

Jennifer Colgan has written a story that truly knocked this reader off her feet. I was amazed and pleasantly surprised with the twists and curveballs in this plot. I did not even consider some of the possible explanations surrounding Elena and her disappearance. The only disappointment I felt in this story was that the last page of the story came too soon. The character development was done well and I found Erica and Maxwell a delight to read about. The sex scenes are sizzling with just the right touch of romance. Fresh Blood will please those readers that like paranormal, suspense and erotica. Another perfect addition to the New Concepts Publishing Catalogue.
