Out There in the Night
Out There in the Night by Laura Baumbach is an erotic paranormal m/m book. The book starts in Alaska in 1905, where we first meet Adam Lowell. He is the son of a trapper and a Native Alaskan. This combination causes him many problems when his parents' beliefs clash. The call from his mother's heritage ends up changing his life in ways that he would never have foreseen. The first chapter sets the scene for the rest of the book. When I got to the end of the first chapter I thought WOW - this will be good.
Next, you meet Dr. Connor Jasey, in the year 2005. Connor is a very physically active, which is part of the reason he moved out of the city to the Alaskan peninsula. He was also looking for a more rewarding job. He presently works for and lives with Dr. Greg Pierce, but he doesn’t feel fulfilled in his relationship. Connor has dreams about a fantasy lover who is tall, dark, built, and handsome. Connor wants someone that he can have permanent connection with. From the first night at his job in Alaska, he has erotic dreams revolving around the same dream lover. Connor was never able to see his face, but he knew that his lover's hair was tied off with strips of rawhide that were traditional to the costumes of the northern territories. His imaginary lover begins to take over more than just his dreams, and Connor starts thinking that he is going crazy. Many times when Greg comes near him, he sees and feels someone other then Greg.
Things become more and more complicated between Greg and Connor, so he chooses to go on a home emergency visit with his guide, Mitch. There is an accident and they never get home. Connor is taken to a remote cabin and cared for by his “imaginary lover” (who is not so imaginary!!). Adam, the imaginary lover, has been waiting for him for 100 years! At this point, the story really gets going and you begin to learn about all the things that happened and why he waited such a long time to be with Connor. Connor has many things to learn and many decisions to make before he and Adam can be together forever!
Ms. Baumbach weaves traditional Alaskan and modern-day cultures into a fascinating book. It was very interesting how Connor responded to all the dreams and visions he saw. Most people would have definitely thought that they were crazy. I loved how the characters of Connor and Adam were so different, but yet they were similar. They came from different times and cultures to build a love that would last for all time. This book has definitely become one of my favorites and is a RECOMMENDED READ!!! Thank you, Ms. Baumbach, for such an enjoyable read!!
