Conjured in Flames
Lord Rodan is desperate to tame the Dark One, Graciela, and use her to further their cause against the dreaded Saracens. Graciela has tortured and killed many men in the surrounding area with her twisted magic and Lord Rodan hopes that the offer of a new and better life will sway her to his side. He is willing to tempt her with anything he can, including the position as his wife. The woman he takes into his custody isn’t exactly what he expected and is spouting a tale of mistaken identity. He’s smarter than that though and will not allow her to sway his course. He will help to rid this world of the Saracens and she will help, or die trying.
Gillian cannot believe it, she was just in one of her listed properties trying to put out a fire, and now she finds herself in the arms of Lord Rodan and being told that she is some Dark One. Surely he’ll listen to her when she tells him who she really is, right? She finds out that she is the image of a woman loathed by all. She has to find a way to convince Rodan that she is not who he thinks she is and that she does not have the powers he insists she does before he sentences her to death.
Conjured in Flames was a fantastic journey to a world named Cazastan. Jennifer Colgan does a phenomenal job of world building with a wonderful twist near the end. Her characters were rich in detail and true to their feelings and upbringings. I was impressed by how detailed everything was. I must admit that I was a little disappointed in Lord Rodan a few times, but he did redeem himself at the end. The romance between Rodan and Gillian was sweet in it’s own way, but wasn’t the central theme to me. The fight between Graciela and the rest of the world took center stage throughout the book without Graciela being present through most of it. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by this author.
