Peacekeeper's Passion

The Fifth Quadrant is facing the possibility of a war that could tear it apart. The decadent head of The Directorate, Asher VonTesmar, has destroyed all of his alliances with his debauchery and insulting disregard for anything other than his own pleasure. The Commonwealth does not want to sever all relations with The Directorate, but if Asher is not removed, they will step aside and allow the Rysusi to descend. To try and avoid this; they send their answer man out to find a patriot, a person who can either change Asher, or depose him.

Gaston VonTesmar is known as the Peacemaker. He is the second prince under Asher; his brother, Samuel, is the crown prince. Samuel wants nothing to do with running The Directorate and so the onus falls to Gaston. He must kill his own father to save the quadrant. To help him he has his brother, his claimant, Cassandra, and a number of compatriots including Alexandra T’Kyan.

Alexandra has brushed against the Rysusi before. It was the experience that brought her into contact with Gaston, an incident that changed both of their lives. Now that they are once again together, will they be able to continue what they started, or will their fates run another course?

Peacekeeper's Passion is the first of this series I have read. In order to fully understand the undercurrents in this book, you really need to read the rest of the series. There are stories involving Gaston and Cassandra, and Alexandra’s brush with the Rysusi available at Renaissance E Books as well as a number of other books involving the Dirandan universe.

I absolutely loved this book. Even though it was a little confusing in the beginning, Tabitha Bradley did a wonderful job of explaining what you needed to know from the back stories of the various characters without lecturing or boring you. I was pulled into this world very, very quickly. The characters were many and varied and so detailed that you really got to see this universe through their eyes. I was constantly surprised by the twists and turns in the plot. I got halfway through the book in one day and went to buy as many of the rest of the series that I could find. I give this book a 5 angel, Recommended Read rating because it was so enthralling and well-written. I cannot wait to read the rest.
