Phoenix Rebellion Rising Up by Gail R. Delaney is a Sci-Fi Romance based on the premise that an alien race, the Areth, has come to the Earth to become our friends and advance the Earth. At least, that is what everyone is lead to believe. The book opens with CJ, a geneticist, that is meeting covertly with a man to obtain information that maybe damning about the Areth, who she works for. Next we meet Victor, an Areth, who we soon learn is different from most of the Areth, who are a very cool and an unfeeling race. We soon learn that the Areth are using part Humans as test subjects for some kind of experiment to help their race. One of the test subjects, Michael, turns out to be the son of the man CJ fell in love with 8 years ago. CJ, who is working for Phoenix-(a group dedicated to fighting the Areth and releasing any captive humans) goes against Phoenix recommendations and finds Michaels father, Nick Tanner, to tell him that his son is alive and being held captive by the Areth. To make it even worse, the wife that he also thought was dead is the Areth who has been experimenting cruelly on Michael and the other captives. As the story progresses, we see scenes of fighting, renewal of life, rebirth of trust in family and a growing love between CJ and Nick.

One of the best things about this series is that Ms. Delaney based the character of Nick Tanner on the actor Richard Dean Anderson, who stared on McGuyver and Stargate SG1. Anyone who is a RDA fan will love this book. The book is so in-depth that you can see the characters as if it was a movie.

Ms. Delaney draws a beautiful portrait of a family separated by unknown forces and brought together under very difficult circumstances who manage to grow bonds that will last a life time. The story ends at one part, but leaves many unanswered questions. Will the main characters live? Can Earth find allies to help them fight the Areth? How will it all end up? These are questions that this reader will be looking for in the next installment of Phoenix Rising. This is a book that anyone who loves Sci-Fi and a great love story will not want to miss.
