Flight of the Valkyrie

Jordan was told that he was transporting a dangerous criminal. He had noticed her beauty as she slept the sleep of the dead, trapped in a cryogen state of hibernation. Everything was proceeding as usual until his transporter crossed paths with a pirate ship on route to the rendezvous point where he was to hand over his human cargo. He outran the ship but ran straight into a trap, forcing him to crash land on a remote moon. Jordan woke from an unconscious state the following day suffering the effects of a deep wounding, and staring straight into the beautiful green eyes of his prisoner.

Parts of Sienna’s memory were cloudy. She knew that she had protested her innocence, screaming as her body was overtaken by the needle-induced sleep of time. Sienna had awoken in a sealed tube; her lungs were struggling for oxygen. Fortunately the tube had broken and she survived the crash landing of the transportation ship. Now she must convince Jordan, the injured pilot, that she is not capable of a heinous crime. Even after all of her efforts to save his life, the sexy well-formed military man still believes that he must treat Sienna as his captive.

Initially survival battling unknown elements brings this pair together, but if they cannot learn to trust they may never make it back to civilization. Conversely, civilization will threaten any bond between them. Jennifer Colgan creates a believable amount of tension between Jordan and Sienna with their situation, yet more insight through personal nuances would have drawn me into the story more. The action sequences are fast paced and the plot has many surprises. The author successfully depicts a vision of futuristic societies and politics, hinting at buried secrets that will have lasting effects on Jordan and Sienna. Sexual situations are not overly explicit, but penned to be realistic.

If you are looking for an old-fashioned romance set amongst a futuristic world, with plenty of action, you will enjoy this tale as much as this reader has. Flight of the Valkyrie has whet my appetite for a little more of this author’s work, and Jennifer Colgan has quite an impressive backlist that begs looking into.
