Let's Pretend

Veronica Peale, otherwise known as Ronnie, has been pushed into a game she was not planning on playing. Her best friend, the beautiful and seductive Kayla, has decided it is time for Ronnie to get a love life. The target in mind is Ronnie's lawyer boss, Paul Langs. Ronnie has always desired that Paul see her as a sexual being and not just as a very efficient secretary. Kayla tosses a gorgeous escort, model Brant Coleman into the mix. He is a "close" friend of hers and will be just perfect for making Paul jealous. Brant has his own motives for wanting to help Veronica out. He works for an insurance agency, and a pair of expensive earrings have been stolen. Some pictures link Ronnie to having them in her possession. The perfect opportunity to find out if Ronnie has the real earrings is to get very close to her; pretending to be her boyfriend is the best way to accomplish this. Problems arise when Ronnie and Brant start to really like each other while trying to get Paul jealous. If Paul decides he wants Ronnie, can Brant let her go? What will Brant do if Ronnie really is involved in the stealing of the earrings? Can he turn her in? The biggest question is: what happens when playing pretend turns real? Brant, Ronnie, Kayla and Paul are all about to find out.

Let's Pretend had some elements I had not expected. First, the humor is hilariously dry. You cannot help but smile and chuckle at the antics Ronnie and Brant come up with to capture Paul's attention. Another thing I enjoyed was Brant's very open sexuality; he knows what men and women look for in relationships. Brant is the king of sexuality. His playfulness inspires Ronnie to break out of her protective shell. Watching Ronnie blossom into a self-assured, assertive woman was a pleasure to read about. Even Kayla and Paul had some depth to their personalities. I even learned some things I never knew, for example, the knocker on Brant's zipper! Don't know what I'm talking about? Read the book and you'll have a big grin on your face when you get to that part. Raine Weaver has written a unique story with a style that is different from most romance writers. This is a very sexy, classy love story destined to get a few ooohs and aaahs out of the reader.
