Detective Ross Burke's life is rapidly going down the drain. Linda, his wife of seven years is cheating on him. She wants a divorce, not that he didn't really see that coming. They had simply grown apart and stopped communicating. Ross still has not gotten over the death of his partner, Derek, and blames himself for not saving him. Derek's widow Tasha and their two young sons have innocently woven their way into his heart . Ross never expected to start feeling passion for Tasha. The guilt of their feelings that they have for one another, have Tasha and Ross confused about what to do next. Matters of the hearts are mild problems, thought, because now a serial killer has arrived in Metrol Louisville. The killer, nicknamed " The Carver”, has taken to marking his victims with Ross' name. The murders are personally linked to some kind of resentment toward the detective. Ross has to find the Carver before more victims turn up, and he has a very bad hunch that Tasha maybe the next victim.

Object of His Affection is a very in-depth romantic and suspenseful novel. I was amazed at the intensity of characters' emotions and situations. Detective Ross Burke reaches out to the reader with realism and a very well-rounded personality. He has his flaws and strengths like most men,but Ross is not afraid to admit when he is wrong, nor does he blame others for making mistakes. He expects honesty and integrity. Tasha and Linda lead much confusion to his life. Both women mean a lot to him, and affect his heart and emotions in so many different ways. While his love life is in turmoil, the job of being a homicide detective is even worse. Ross is a tough, no-nonsense type of cop, and that is important in his line of work. When the Carver enters his world, things just seem to progress from bad to worse. The ending was an eye opener and very unpredictable. This is a perfect novel for those who like more realism in their romantic suspense.
