Under the Wild Wolf Moon
Since ancient times in Ireland, Shapeshifters have been the guardians of the wolves. Legend says that when the Shapeshifters and wolf packs have dwindled and face their worst times, a strong alpha male and a female alpha with strong druid magic will mate and revive the clan to its former glory.
Siobhan Doyle is a biologist who studies wolves. She has just gotten a job studying wolves on the outskirts of her hometown of Destiny, Montana. She has always had a strong connection with all animals of the canine persuasion. In fact she can communicate with them, reading the images in their minds. She and her dog Aingeal prepare to move back home. She has mixed feelings about going back. The nightmares from her childhood recently have returned to haunt her sleep, flashing images of the trauma that wiped her memory. You see, Siobhan woke up in a barn in a bloody nightgown with head injuries when she was twelve. They only knew her name, which was written on the tag in her gown. The barn owner was Maeve, an older woman who raised Siobhan after no one claimed her.
Dr. Faelan Conroy, the leader of the wolf study in Destiny, Montana is also going home for the first time in years. His father is the alpha leader of the MacTire Clan in Destiny. He is also traveling home to help get the family business out of a sticky financial situation. On top of all that, the Council of the Clan expects him to find a mate and eventually take over, but Faelan will run his own life, thank you very much.
When Siobhan and Faelan meet, the chemistry is immediate. But Faelan also knows Siobhan from the past, and their meeting triggers Siobhan’s memories. Now Siobhan is exploring both her past and her feelings for Faelan. But the person who killed her family and left her past a blank slate is still a threat, and Siobhan’s memories are fragmented. Will she remember in time the man who destroyed her past before he can destroy her future?
I really loved this book. Siobhan is a determined, intelligent female who overcame the trauma of her childhood to make something of herself. Faelan is a strong, sensual man who protects those he cares about. The sheer heat of the sexual attraction between the two is truly stimulating. I loved the druid magic aspect added to the shapeshifter archetype. I also liked the minor characters of the book. Though I had a good idea of who the bad guy was pretty early, the tension built from his threat kept me glued to the pages. I am hoping this is one of many from Raine McIntyre. Well done!
