Gabrielle Kane is surrounded by enemies, and is not having an easy life. She loves the secluded valley where she is at peace, finding her roots, but she senses a far off presence and in time sees the stranger that lives not too far from her. When she becomes injured, she finds a way to make it down to the lake where Matthew resides. Matthew is friends with Black Bear, and when his daughter Gabrielle becomes hurt, he promises to do anything to save her. After meeting Gabrielle, he experiences a huge difference in his life. Matthew brings her to his cabin and cares for her as well as giving her protection. He sees her dreams and her fears, and vows to be there for her. Just as she loves the mountain valley and the tranquility of everything, he is quite intrigued as well. As time passes before them, they find themselves pulled apart when disaster strikes; Matthew is only left with her scent and the remembrance of her dark eyes just like the wolf that was beside her when he found her hurt by the lake. They find themselves on an incredible journey in time, to be reunited later as Gabriella gives Matthew a son and he learns that even though others only see Gabrielle as a woman, too many she is a strong warrior.

The Wolf Within is a wonderful story by a master storyteller. Matthew is a disheartened soldier with life itself who seeks to find peace. Gabrielle has been through a difficult time and is estranged from many in her family. She and Matthew fight hard to overcome obstacles that will give them the peace that they desire in their life after being saddled with many problems. It draws the reader into a tale that spins in time that leaves a lasting impression. The characters are believable, strong, and determined in all their actions. Ms. Mueller’s creativity spins with excitement, on the edge of your seat entertainment and brilliant, vibrant characters that give the story credibility. Her tight writing is distinctive in this tender tale surrounding loss, vengeance, devastation and love. The Wolf Within is a strong story that shows how people can survive and find that true love. I find it a highly recommended read.
