A Song of the Sidhe
Maire Finn has survived ten years of a passionless marriage, and when her husband dies, she takes a lover. He is the carpenter Donal Bawn, a lusty man with a reputation for wickedness between the sheets. The gods are jealous however, and the High King of the Sidhe, Ogma, still burns for the mortal woman Maire who he made love to in a dream one night. One doesn’t want to anger the gods as Donal has done with his pride. Donal becomes cursed for his prowess, his rich voice and for providing bed pleasure without hope of the gift of love. Hunchbacked, impotent and but a shadow of his former self, he awaits his one true love.
A member of the Sidhe, Ceoleen suffers from the besetting sin of pride as well, and is confident in her abilities to gain status among her kindred. But in a cruel twist of fate, she is cursed by her contemporaries and even her very voice is taken for her, save but one song fragment that she can only sing once a day – to be completed by her one true love. She bears an additional curse laid on her by her spurned lover, and there seems to be no hope that she’ll ever encounter someone to break the curses, let alone claim her for his own.
These two are brought together, the blind, beauteous Sidhe and the lusty mortal, both cursed, both learning the harsh lessons of life...and once again, they are touched by the jealousy of the gods. Will they figure out that love without trust is really not love at all?
The Song of the Sidhe by Jeanne Barrack is an amazing and richly-woven tale of pride, passion, and the pettiness of the gods. This is a story of the power of love and of seeing with the eyes of the heart. Ms. Barrack expertly brings readers to a fever pitch with this passionate chronicle of two lovers learning themselves and overcoming their faults. The characters are lively and struck a chord with this reader, while the settings, from green forest glade to the shining courts of the fey, are lush and breathtaking. There are dominance games here and some voyeurism that add a sensual layer to this tale’s telling, and the sex here is served up smoking hot! The Song of the Sidhe is an emotional, heartfelt and terrific story that you’ll not want to miss! Five Angels!
