When Shannon Miller, owner of a temp agency, went to the offices of Creative Energies she never expected to find herself trapped in a video game, or to be attracted to Dr. Damien Richards. She is a little shocked and frightened when she finds out that the only way to go home is to play the game with Damien. Shannon wants to go home and will do whatever it takes, but pretending to be Damien’s lover may be more than her heart can take. Unable to control her growing feelings for Damien, Shannon is afraid that he does not feel the same way.

Dr. Damien Richards likes to play the games his company creates, but finding himself and Shannon Miller stuck in one is not what he expected. The game changes him physically while forcing Damien and Shannon to remain in close proximity. Shannon quickly becomes very important to him and he wonders if they could have a future together after leaving the game. Damien has put everything into his job and Shannon makes him want to come out of the rut he has become stuck in.

The strong characters in Jessie Verino’s Lord Night will connect with the reader and will have the reader craving more. Shannon and Damien are both resilient people who have overcome hardship. The bond between the two is a good mix of physical desire and friendship as they must rely on each other. I enjoyed that each wanted a relationship after the game but knew that time apart was necessary.
