Middlemarch Mates: Peeping Tom
Felix Mitchell has conflicted feelings about reporter Tomasine Brooks. Her snooping into the sightings of black cats in Middlemarch angers him, as well as the rest of the village. No one wants their safe haven compromised. But the attraction he feels towards her nearly has him convinced that she’s his mate. Since he nearly jumped her outside the post office – when school was letting out, no less – he has kept his distance. But will his hormones finally take over at the woolshed dance? Is Tomasine his mate? Is she really what she seems to be?
Tomasine is on the run with her five-year-old daughter and sixteen-year-old foster daughter. For two years she has fled from those who pursue her, from continent to continent. Tomasine is searching for somewhere safe to live and thinks she has found that place in Middlemarch. But her attempts to discover if she is right has made the community lock her out. At the woolshed dance, she will make one final bid to learn the answers she seeks. But will she find more than she has been looking for? Is Middlemarch her safe haven? From what - or who - is she hiding?
I have been awaiting more Middlemarch Mates tales ever since I devoured the first in the series, Scarlet Woman. I am happy to say I wasn’t disappointed. Peeping Tom is a fabulously woven story that takes an unexpected twist or two. I found myself immersed in the tale, and am eager for the follow ups to this novel as the ending is something of a cliff hanger, paving the way for the next in the series (which isn’t out till January *pout*). Shelley Munro is an excellent author, with a vivid imagination, able to weave the paranormal with sensuality, suspense, secrets and seduction. Peeping Tom is certainly no exception. Sizzling sensual, Peeping Tom contains a mild strand of submission, some anal play and biting (the characters are shape shifters, after all). We again meet up with the characters from the first novel, with the exception of the playful twins. Catching up with Saber and Emily was great. Leo’s frustration at his inability to locate his mate, though he knows she is close at hand, provides promise for another Middlemarch Mates storyline. If you read Scarlet Woman, you shouldn’t miss Peeping Tom. If you’re a Munro fan and these have somehow passed you by, you mustn’t let any more time slip away. If you haven’t read a Munro yet, you’ll surely be a fan soon. I was a quick convert; I’m sure you will be, too.
