Scoop: A Cauley MacKinnon Novel
When reporter Cauley MacKinnon gets a call from her childhood friend, Scooter, she arrives at his house to find him locked in the shed threatening suicide. Cauley is puzzled as to why a SWAT team and FBI agent are at the scene of an attempted suicide, but she doesn’t have time to dwell on it. When the cop’s attention is diverted, she is able to get inside the shed and talk Scooter out of his suicide mission as she had done once before.
Cauley knows something is up when the FBI agent Tom Logan comes to visit her and figures that what ever it is might just be big enough to get her off the obituary beat and back into real reporting.
Cauley is soon embroiled in the middle of an investigation no one will tell her anything about and one that could get her killed.
Scoop is a compelling read that will keep you guessing until the very end. Cauley is a great character that keeps you entertained with her antics and dialog. There is a lot going on in this book that will lead you in many directions and the author does a great job of keeping you focused on the main characters. Cauley’s mix of eclectic friends and family adds a lot of dimension and realism to the story. Scoop is well deserving of 5 angels and I cannot wait to read Dead Copy, the next Cauley MacKinnon novel.
