Make Me A Match
When Dr. Cecilia Burns’ gypsy sister shows up out of the blue after ten years and crashes her engagement party, Cecilia knows she’s in for some trouble. With her psychic talent of hearing the name of a person’s “One True Love”, Amy could ruin everything Cecilia has worked toward for the last ten years. But Amy is a force to be reckoned with and won’t stop until she tells Cecilia the news…that her fiancé, Jack, is NOT her “One True Love”, but a man named Finn Concord is. Of course Amy also sees that he’s dying so Cecilia will have to be quick if she wants to be live happily ever after.
Force, namely his young daughter Maya, have conspired to get Finn Concord to Baltimore. Not only does Finn have to contend with Maya’s rent-a-granny who lives atop a bar, he’s also got a crazy woman urging him to go get a check up. Although it’s the strangest pick up line he’s ever heard, he can’t get the gorgeous Dr. Burns out of his mind so he might just have to take her up on her offer…
Ms. Holquist has created a laugh-out-loud book that looks at the wild and wacky way in which we screw up our lives. Cecilia is an intelligent, successful woman who is hiding from her past. When Amy shows up, she’s forced to confront her old demons as well as her beliefs in order to find the happiness that she doesn’t even realize is missing in her life. Finn is a man who has faced loss and hardship in his past, yet is willing to risk all to be with this woman that ties him up in knots. Their courtship is one of the craziest I’ve ever read! The secondary characters from Maya, Finn’s precocious daughter, to Granny Trudy, the bar owning rent-a-granny, to Amy, the quintessential gypsy con artist, most definitely support this story and make it such an interesting read. There were aspects that really frustrated me, for example when Amy’s selfishness came to the forefront or when Cecilia’s almost fatalistic belief in Amy’s powers put everything she had worked for in jeopardy. But regardless, the fast paced, emotion grabbing Make Me A Match is one story I truly enjoyed.
