A Good Man is Hard to Find by Jeanne Laws is a homoerotic historical western. When the story begins, we find Kade in a life and death struggle. Kade is in the middle of a gunfight; it’s him against Big Mel and his crew. Kade managed to take one man out, but he was out-gunned until he gets some help from another member of community who came to his assistance, but not before he was shot. Big Mel and his crew got away before they confirmed if he was alive or not. After Kade was shot, he thought back to his best friend, Ren, with whom he has been in love with for a long time. Kade decided that if he is given another chance he would clearly make his feelings known.

After Kade heals, he traveled to Paradise Grove to tell Ren about how he feels. Kade thinks back on all of the escapades the two of them had as they grew up and how they first met. Kade arrives and things don't quite go exactly as planned. What will happen when Kade talks to Ren? Will there be surprises in store for both of them?

In a very short number of pages, Ms. Laws has created depth to the characters of Ren and Kade that you rarely find in a short story. The miscommunications between Ren and Kade are at times humorous and other times very sweet. Ren is both sweet and very determined to get what he wants. Kade finally mades a decision about his life, but is he strong enough to finally go for the one thing that he wants most in life? The interactions between Kade and Ren were very hot and written so concisely that the reader is pulled into the book. You’ll find yourself rooting for a happy ending for the characters. It is this reader's hope that Ms. Laws writes more books in this genre.
