Love Match
Love Match by Keira Andrews is a homoerotic contemporary romance. This story revolves around two characters, Luke Rossovich and Jesse McAllister, and their lives on and off the International Tennis Circuit. Luke is a seasoned player who is looking for one more shot at the title, while Jesse is just starting his professional carrier and he has many things to learn. Luke is having a hard time focusing his game so he can make the points that he needs to win. Luke is approached by Jesse to see if he wants to try playing doubles with him for the practice and to sharpen both of their skills. Luke immediately notices how cute Jesse is and quickly takes an interest in everything that Jesse does. Luke decides to take Jesse up on his suggestion and they meet at Luke’s private tennis court. Luke is soon caught watching Jesse like a love-struck fool and the two of them continue to avoid the issue.
Soon the tennis tournaments begin, but Luke and Jesse find time to work around their busy schedule to work on their doubles game. During the next practice session, Jesse falls and Luke takes more than just a clinical interest when he checks him for injuries. One thing leads to another and Jesse kisses Luke. He is so surprised that Luke pulls away and Jesse runs away. Will Luke find a way to get through to Jesse? Is Jesse ready to take a chance? Will outside circumstances help Luke and Jesse or they cause further blocks to them building a relationship?
Ms. Andrews has created a very unique tale which combines the world of professional sports with a funny, spicy and endearing romance that be adored by anyone who likes a great love story. Luke and Jesse find love at first sight, but then the complications quickly interfere. Luke is much older then Jesse and he has to contend with his personal issues on top of his feelings that “things will never change”. Jesse is much younger, but in some aspects much wiser than Luke. Jesse is much more willing to take chances then Luke, but sometimes he needs to temper what he wants and think things out first. As a reader, I loved how Luke and Jesse tread carefully around each other until everything seemed to mesh and then watch out! The first time them came together it was like setting match to gasoline! As a culture, we need to accept people as they are, not as we want them to be! I hope that Ms. Andrews will continue to write more books in this genre. I wish to send thanks to Ms. Andrews for writing such a gem of a book. This will definitely be one that I will reread many times.
