Easter Treasure
Susan Lyons brings the festive aspect of the Easter holiday alive with plenty of warmth and a sense of family that effectively pulls the reader in. Easter Treasure might be a short offering, but it has a good sense of story with a logical beginning, middle, and end. The plot opens with Ian MacKay awakening to the new and decidedly disconcerting sounds of an unfamiliar place. As he gets his bearings in his new home, readers are treated to simple insights into his character. Glimpses of humor and his decision to not quell the exuberance of the children hunting eggs, makes him easily likeable. When he meets Sandy, the warmth in the story increases and had this reader easily visualizing their meeting and hoping something could come of their attraction. While there obviously can’t be a lot of character development in a story of this length, there is a degree of believability in their actions and responses that translates well to the reader. The plot progresses naturally, maintaining its familiar appeal, and comes to a satisfying end that has both surprise and promise on its side.
