Trilogy No. 103: Red, Hot & Blue
Trilogy No. 103: Red, Hot & Blue is a wonderful addition to the anthologies I have come to love from Cat Johnson. Red, Hot & Blue introduces readers to the members of Task Force Zeta, and wow, what an introduction to a group of dynamic, heroic men.
In Trey, Trey Williams finds himself between a rock and a hard place, or more specifically between his best friend and the first woman to capture his attention in forever. To further complicate matters, Trey needs Carly’s help on a very sensitive, dangerous mission. He is confident they can survive the mission, but will his heart?
This is my favorite in the collection. Trey is truly a hero, while Carly is a wonderfully caring, dedicated individual. I like how right for each other they seem. I also appreciate the very real emotion between Jack and Trey; Ms. Johnson conveys their team’s camaraderie with humor and an innate understanding. The ending is sweet and romantic and definitely begins the anthology with a bang.
Next we have Jack. When forced leave brings Jack home, he finds a surprise waiting for him in the form of Nicki Camp. There is no question this hand knows her way around horses, but he thinks she is hiding something. He won’t stop until he finds out just who she is.
After getting to know Jack in Trey’s story, it was nice to see more of him. Even as he entertains readers with southernisms and harmless flirting, there is no doubt Jack is a gentleman. His slow pursuit of Nicki is both charming and amusing. The author has done well bringing the personal and professional side of Jack’s life into play.
Finally, in Jimmy, we get to see the operative whose life put in motion the romantic turn of events. Jimmy Gordon can handle almost anything. He thrives on the danger and adrenaline of a successful mission. However, when he meets Amelia Monroe-Carrington while undercover, she poses a threat to his heart. Has this operative finally met his match?
Jimmy’s story is a unique blend of past and present that was a treat for this reader. Not only does the author offer more glimpses of the first two couples, she brings Jimmy full circle. His character has an appealing blend of strength, humor, and sensitivity that is sure to win readers over.
The men of Task Force Zeta make for a wonderful collection of romantic stories. Cat Johnson delivers a solid offering with plenty of humor, action and heat. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this team of men.
