Purgatory
Reese has been in love with Lucas for years when he finally admits his feelings for the other man and makes his move. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned. Feeling disillusioned and alone, Reese chooses to leave his old life behind and forget about what might have been. Burying his gay side, he goes on the straight and narrow, even going so far as to settle down. Determined to settle down with his girlfriend he is surprised at the feelings that rise up when he meets Lucas at his sister’s wedding. He is even more surprised that Lucas is more than willing to get him into bed when the man had made it clear he was straight.
Lucas takes one look at Reese, all the years’ fall away knowing what he lost when he violently rejected what Reese had offered years ago, he has the fight of his life to prove that His love is real. So how will he go about making Reese see things his way? With lots of loving, great conversation, and real emotion. However, Reese proves more of an adversary then what he expects. Reese’s independence will not let him depend on anyone. Not even what could be the love of his life? So Lucas decides to make every effort to impress! And boy does he ever!
Reese and Lucas have a very emotional history together. With some of the past colliding with the future how will they both, learn to love and trust again? Reese has to find the person that he was on the inside. The person that is a little lost and a lot buried. And Lucas has to learn that some of the best things in life are worth fighting and waiting for.
I loved this story! The character development was great, the chemistry between these two wonderful people made it even more so, not to mention a great supporting cast. I like how Lucas and Reese can both argue but love one another at the same time. I particularly love the scene where Lucas comes to Reese’s job, and oh man the way it plays out is side splitting. I was in shock! I sat in disbelief saying to myself; no, oh no, he is not getting ready to do this. And what happens afterwards is worthy of any staged play, it was so funny, but at the same time so very intense. The rest of the band members round this story out perfectly. They bring many different elements to this tale, as well as their own experiences in finding and building a relationship with their own mates. This is a story with complex emotions and situations. It engrossed me making it hard to put down for longer than a few minutes at a time let alone a few days. I have always loved reading anything by this author; Purgatory just enforces it and goes to show why. Congratulations, Ms. Mykles on another well-written story.
