DamNATION
In creating a new species of workers, mankind created superior beings that were genetically perfect. They were physically appealing, were bigger and stronger with a physiology that healed faster than humans. They also had fangs. Yet in order to keep them subservient, they were engineered to need an enzyme only available from humans, an enzyme that also killed them at the peak of their lives.
Somehow, one of those beings escapes. Helios, the first of his kind, and the only one who did not need the enzyme, who could in fact live off the blood of humans, leads a rebellion to free his fellow “vampires”. Yet in order to do that, they need the enzyme neutralizer just recently developed by a research company called Hemosynthetic. Helios will use any means necessary to get it, even kidnap Dawn Eindhoven, the CEO’s executive assistant.
Known as “Hell’s Bitch” at work, Dawn isn’t about to allow anyone access to their new product, especially a vamp. Yet Helios manages to find the cracks in Dawn’s façade and they both realize there’s something special about the other. Will they realize what they have in each other before it’s too late?
Nathalie Gray once again delivers a unique story with DamNATION. Helios is everything you’d imagine a genetically engineered being should be, but so much more. Although he doesn’t realize it, his past and the treatment he received at the hands of his creators made him that much closer to human. While he gets his revenge, he also yearns to help the other vampires. When he meets Dawn, he’s surprised at the obsession he feels for her. She quickly begins to mean something to him and when she is in danger, his true beast is released. As for Dawn, she’s hard nosed and smart mouthed and just about perfect for Helios. She’s not afraid of him and in fact encourages his vampire strength. They both fight the sexual pull they feel but can’t escape the feelings they have for each other and easily draws the reader into that conflict. I really enjoyed getting to know these two, feeling their emotional turmoil and seeing the journey they both made in order to come to the realization that both humans and vampires have good and bad qualities. DamNATION is an interesting, sexy story packed with action and emotion.
