A Limited Engagement
What a completely engaging, perfectly apropos tale of the ton! Every detail and nuance in this book is so accurate I felt completely taken back in time.
A Limited Engagement highlights human needs and emotions, especially under times of extreme duress. Miranda had expectations she always assumed would come true, but with her father’s death and her reduced circumstances her life will change drastically. Miranda decided to make her own way in the world by becoming an actress. Her thought is to work in a relation’s theater, but she’s hired to play a private engagement for the dashing Lord Justin Devereux. Miranda and Justin each intend to have their immediate needs satisfied. Neither dreams they’ll find more than they bargain for.
The exchanges between Justin and Miranda are outstanding. When he “roars” I can practically hear him, and when she is indignant I am indignant with her. This book drew me in fully and I honestly didn’t want it to end. The use of vivid images, as well as expressions of the time, like “ninny” and “polite confusion” made me smile. A Limited Engagement by Saralee Etter makes me want to read more of her work. This story is total entertainment.
