Her Handyman
Needing help at her cabin, Stephanie Potter placed an ad in the local paper for a handyman. When Cullen McKay applied, visiting his aunt in town for the summer, she didn’t hesitate in hiring him sight unseen. She thought he would be little more than a boy, but when he turns up, there is no denying just how much of a man he is. But with the twenty year age gap between them, can Stephanie be convinced to act on their attraction?
Her Handyman is an enjoyable, quick read with a somewhat sudden ending. Stephanie is a widow aged forty-five, insecure in herself and very nervous, particularly when it comes to venturing into her local small town. Cullen is a young man, visiting the area for a short period before moving on. At least, moving on is the plan. That is what he always does, after all. The age gap between them is substantial, twenty years in all, and will be unsettling perhaps for some readers. Each character is suitably developed for a short story, with both characters being fleshed out enough as to be three-dimensional. Her Handyman is very much a romance, with sex only occurring towards the end of the tale. Sexual interludes are described, though not in explicit, graphic detail. The pace of the tale is steady, though quickens towards the conclusion before ending somewhat abruptly, with no guarantee of a happy or long lasting ever after. For a charming May-December romance, Jennah Sharpe’s Her Handyman is definitely worth your consideration.
