Lanelle Durant is running from an abusive husband when her car breaks down on Interstate 80 in the heart of Iowa, in the college town of Grinnell. Saved by a kind trucker, she decides that it is fate that she broke down; for when she calls her family she learns that her ex-husband is waiting for her at her destination, his anger becoming more dangerously frightening.

She impulsively decides to stay in Grinnell, finding a farmstead that calls to her. Little does Lanelle know that the Victorian house is home to a handsome ghost who is invading her dreams and playing with the lives of the residents of Grinnell. For a tragedy happened in the house, and the handsome face that Lanelle sees in the mirror is the specter of Remy Devereux- a man who wants to possess her. But is it only her love and pleasure he is seeking, or is it her soul he wants as well?

This well written novel is part murder mystery, part thriller, part romance. It’s an absorbing story of love, healing, forgiveness, and small town dynamics. As Lanelle begins to become part of the small town of Grinnell, she is solving the mystery of her new home. She is discovering what it means to heal and love as she gets to know, through other people, Remy, the ghost who haunts her house. It is through her that the people of Grinnell begin to forgive each other for the past and moving toward the future.

But something threatens the fragile love that is blooming in Lanelle, and it will take the help of her newfound friends and the spectral powers of Remy to overcome the danger.

Charlotte Boyett-Compo is a master at creating a story that shows off a range of emotions from laughter and healing to fear and hurt. Ghost Wind certainly runs the gamut of emotions, taking the reader on a ride they will want to read over and over again.
