The Days of Summer

It only takes one moment in time to affect the lives of everyone involved. That is the journey that author Jill Barnett takes us on in The Days of Summer. It all starts with a fatal car crash that kills both parents of two boys and the father of a young girl. Little do they know but fate will intertwine their lives forever. The two brothers are left to a cold grandfather set on pitting them against one another to see who is the toughest. This will affect both in ways they will not know until they are older and one woman could make or break their relationship. The young girl is left with her mother and grandmother living a close to normal life except for her mother who never quite got over the pain of losing her father. When the three meet on an off chance, it isn’t long before they all realize their lives will never be the same especially with a grandfather who will never forget and a mother who will never forgive.

This book was a very refreshing read. It brings out several emotions throughout reading this intriguing tale of two families. Anger, sadness and happiness are just a few of the sensations to mention. Readers will not be disappointed in the ending as I had originally thought I would be. Mrs. Barnett took the story in a whole other direction leaving one satisfied with the way everything was wrapped up. Both of the sons were captivating in their own ways, and Laurel was a heroine to admire because she faced what came at her and made the best of the decisions she made. The Days of Summer is definitely a recommended read!
