Blood Bytes

Tess Monterey is called in on her day off to investigate a murder scene with unique attributes, even for her. The victim has been savaged and yet there is no blood. With vampires a part of society now it’s probable that the murderer is one of the undead sort. When a business card with the logo of the preeminent undead escort service, Blood Bytes, is found in the victim’s home, the trail takes a turn into the strange and dangerous realm of undead sex-for-hire.

Devante Matiero is an escort from Blood Bytes and has found himself square in the middle of a murder investigation as the suspect. Intrigued by the investigating officer, he makes sure he knows where she is and tried to keep his secrets quiet while helping as only he can.

Tess is forced to examine her life and her preconceived notions of good and evil.

Blood Bytes was a unique story. I was drawn into the world that Susan Phelan built in this book. The society that she has created is well rounded and believable. Not only is the groundwork well laid, it’s peopled by characters that jump out of the story to make you hope that you will see them in an alley somewhere. The vampires are sexy and yet scary at the same time. Ms. Phelan keeps you guessing as to the villain’s identity throughout the book and when you find out the truth it’s a wow moment. I enjoyed the futuristic setting and the realistic characters and can definitely say that I will be reading more from this author.
