Threat of Darkness

Mei has been a Warrior for the Balance for two thousand years. After being held in a horrific prison for a thousand years she’s lost everything that she ever knew or loved and has finally begun to live again with the help of her work and her husband, Card. Now she’s being forced to face her past and the lies and betrayal that she had no idea were a part of her exile. Seeing her mother and her previously thought dead husband, she must try to balance her past with the present and save the Fae from a devastating danger at the same time.

Card knows that he’ll do anything to help Mei find true happiness and put the horrors of her past behind her, even share her if it comes to that.

Jayce cannot believe it when he sees Mei alive once again. When he finds that she’s mated to another the hurt is horrible, but nothing compared to the trauma she’s already gone through. How can he not put aside his fear, anger, and pain in the face of Mei’s courage?

Threat of Darkness is a book that is written in the Witches Knot universe, but is only loosely related to the rest of the series and does not need to be read in order, however it will add to the enjoyment if you do.

While this was a standalone book we still got to see glimpses of the women and men that we’ve come to love from the Witches Knot series. I would have preferred a little more information on the Fae and the machinations behind Mei’s exile, but barring that this was a fantastic book. The characters are well-rounded and truly real ‘feeling’. The plot was very complicated and amazing in true Lauren Dane form, but the back-story was not exactly what I would have expected after reading Ms. Dane’s other books. Both Jayce and Card were definitely drool-worthy and I loved Mei’s strength throughout the book. I truly hope that we are able to revisit the relationship that’s been established in this book.
