Under a Confederate Moon
Under the Confederate Moon by J.M. Snyder is a homoerotic paranormal story set in the time of the Civil War.
Caleb finds himself in a difficult position. He is supposed to be on guard duty, but as a shifter it is the time of the full moon and he has no control over the change that takes place. He is a member of the Confederate Army and deserting your post has harsh penalties. But, then the most unexpected thing happens while he is in bobcat form, he meets a man, Brance, another shifter just like himself. Caleb has never meet another shifter and feels an immediate kinship. Unfortunately, the other man is not very receptive to his overtures of friendship. Brance begins to trust Caleb after he treats Brance’s wounds, but things quickly get out of control when he finds out that Caleb, under threat, revealed the position of Brance’s camp. You see, Brance is a member of the Yankee Army while Caleb is in the Confederate Army. Will Caleb find a way to make up for his betrayal of Brance or are they doomed to forever be separated?
Ms. Snyder has written an interesting historical story with a fascinating paranormal twist to it. It is fascinating to see how people from that time period would respond to something so out of the ordinary, as shifters would be. Caleb is put in the terrible position of protecting himself versus revealing the whereabouts on the union army thus revealing Brance's position too. Brance has a difficult time trusting Caleb, but even after his trust is betrayed he is willing to trust in their bond one more time. I loved how completely different Caleb saw the world in human and in bobcat form. The writing was so descriptive that the reader could almost see, smell, and feel it for themselves. Thanks go to Ms. Snyder another fascinating story.
