Primal

After one of their own betrays them, the surviving members of the only lycan soldiers-for-hire team separate and lie low until the dust clears. Yet because Liberty, the technology specialist, needs to wait on a replacement for her illegal optical implants, they can’t go completely to ground…and with Liberty’s looks, it’s hard to blend.

What’s even harder for Cupcake is trying to suppress his true feelings for Liberty. He knows she’s way out of his league, but he’s content to just bask in her nearness until a stay on the Antioch Space Station highlights his past as well as their differences. When that past threatens Liberty, Cupcake realizes he’ll do anything to save her…

I loved how Ms. Gray effortlessly drew me into this story. Liberty and Cupcake are so obviously different, yet both yearn for the same thing. When they realize that, they release their beasts and allow them free reign, resulting in sexual encounters that are truly Primal! When Cupcake’s past catches up with him, Liberty sees the man behind the façade he displays for everyone, which makes her want him even more. Throughout this tale, Ms. Gray also weaves in more of the background for the soldiers-for-hire and leaves many possibilities for future stories.
