Discovering two half-dead female humanoids that had hidden themselves in a cave is not a comforting find in Torin’s search as to why the carnivorous Gaurans have gone from a nuisance to an almost organized fighting force. When the least hurt of the two comes to with few memories and a disturbing habit of becoming almost feral when threatened, Torin is forced to isolate her; even though he finds himself drawn to her time and time again.

Karia was chosen to populate a barren planet along with others from Earth. With Earth gone and her entire team decimated by animals that first killed, and then ate her companions in front of her, Karia has no choice but to acquiesce to Torin’s requests for more information before she’s allowed free rein around his people. With more and more realizations making her doubt not only her actions, but her father’s as well, Karia has nothing but Torin to keep her grounded and safe.

Oh my goodness, this was an amazing premise. Not only was this a fantastic idea, but it played out well too. Ms. Meilleur was able to create a plot and characters that were fully realized very, very quickly. Karia was a strong woman put in an untenable situation and one who dealt with it with aplomb and intelligence. Torin blew me away. Even though he found Karia attractive and was drawn to her, he still made sure that his people were safe. With the opening for another book to follow-up, I am excited to see what else Ms. Meilleur has in store for us.
