Tempting Fate

When Hera conspires to finally end humanity, the Fates are put in place to prevent their demise. Let the battles begin.

A Rogue Soul by Kara Fey

Clothos’ Grand Tapestry is beautiful, beyond perfection but for one small thing, a soul that refuses to die. When her sister leaves the outcome in her hands, Clothos must find the human, Tony, and end his life. Too bad that when she meets this Rogue Soul he stirs a passion unlike any she has known in her immortal life.

Kara Fey offers a wonderful opening to this anthology. Readers are propelled through the years and see the beautiful design the Fates have woven for humanity, but at the cost of the Fates’ future. Clothos is a powerful, innocent being. Her secret longing for more is easily understandable as is her attraction to the handsome man determined to survive. Their passions run hot and a slight twist in the end will definitely leave you smiling.

The Fate of Lachesis by Rena Marks

Lachesis dreams of someone, something that can fill the passionless void of her destiny. Yet she doubts she will ever fulfill that fantasy until she is forced to confront a mistake from her past. Hope springs within her, but even she cannot change the course of a life when its lot has been cast.

Rena Marks surprised me with the romance, passion, and commitment in her story. I thoroughly enjoyed just how far Lachesis was willing to go to correct her mistake. The depth of her caring is touching and makes this story memorable.

The Awakening by Kally Jo Surbeck

As the death dealer Atropos is used to being alone. Just once though she would like someone to understand who she truly is. When Narcissus comes to tease her during an evening among humans, has she finally found someone who can look beneath the surface?

Atropos’ tale is darkly beautiful. Within her isolation, readers come to understand how much she truly cares for her charges and at what personal cost she does her job. When Narcissus finds her, the story shifts slightly and readers will relish the momentary joy tempting Atropos. Within the rich imagery and emotions of the story, readers are reminded that life is a precious gift and should be relished.

Chasing Luck by Melissa Schroeder

Chase spent years dedicated to revenge, only to turn his back and walk away from it all. When Hera promises him what he wants most, can he deliver at the expense of his heart and Luck?

Melissa Schroeder rounds out this anthology nicely. Lucky is a refreshing sister to the Fates. She displays a rich appreciation for life. Readers will be easily drawn into the banter and awareness simmering between Chase and Lucky. As the story comes full circle, there is plenty of passion, a touch of humor, and just the right blend of justice and love to end this anthology perfectly.

Tempting Fate is a rich, modern take on the Fates. The stories carry the distinct voices of each of the authors, yet there is a unity within the stories. The loves depicted are as diverse and pleasing as the Fates themselves. Together, they combine to create a work that tells a story in its entirety.
