Smooth Ride

Dane Robinson had been a great jockey until the accident nine months ago where he got pretty banged up, leaving him without a job and his legs useless as a jockey. His boss, Chris Malloy still stung at the thought of seeing Dane or even hearing the name. He had blamed Dane for the riding accident and for some reason Dane still felt loyalty to the ruthless man. More importantly Dane loved the horse, Smooth Ride, and missed him even more. Even Smooth Ride exhibited some depression with Dane’s absence. Leo Castle, a Native American horse trainer wishes that Dane could come back and help with Smooth Ride but that was completely out of the question. If Chris even knew that Dane had been keeping an eye on Smooth Ride, he would be spinning with fury. Dane hates the way Chris tends to the horse, not really giving him the complete medical treatment he requires. Leo is happy to see Dane has returned to town. The need they have for each other is strong. When Dane learns that Leo has a wife, he is surprised; he thought they were an item. Leo tries to explain that it is all a plan to get Smooth Ride, but Dane is not too sure he can believe Leo.

Smooth Ride is a wonderful read about trying to get a horse back into the winner’s circle. Reading about the connection between Dane and the horse and the depression, as well as trying to find a way to get them together to lift their spirits was a winning situation. Dane and Leo have a relationship that has lasted but when Leo’s marriage is mentioned, I could practically see the shocked expression on Dane’s face. Cash Cole pens a heated romance between two men while trying to find a way to save a horse that has almost human qualities. She creates some sexy, hot men who make the nights sizzle while trying to save something most important in their life.
