From the Ashes
My first instinct is to warn that this is a serial story, the first part of a series of chapters like the old television serials designed to draw you back to it again and again. But a serial story only works if it’s good enough to make you want to scream in frustration when you see the words TO BE CONTINUED at the end. Or, the pseudo end.
To give you a full measure of how loud my scream was, I want you to understand a few things. One, it is in first person and, as a rule, I despise first person. Two, I have never once given anything I have ever reviewed at FAR five angels/recommended read status. Aurelia Abbott sucked me in by the second paragraph in spite of my eye-roll at the first ‘I’ in the story. Then she made me cry like a big baby because I knew exactly how the heroine felt. I was torn all over the place, on the edge of my keyboard, dying to figure out where she was going to go with all of the heavy dashes of human angst and intrigue as well as the mysterious touch of the inhuman and paranormal that had me crying out at my screen “Wait! What does that mean??” I am delightfully frustrated and am looking forward to the August continuation of the story.
Our heroine is Hannah. Our hero…to be determined. One man has broken her heart, and one is a lifelong friend. But just when she starts to realize she could recover from her hurt, they both turn her life and her emotions into a storming turmoil of unknown consequences. If I sound like a tease…well, it’s because to tell you anything more would seriously give it all away and without the effect and justice the author did for it. Go. Run. Find out for yourself!
