An Arrangement Among Gentlemen is very brief, length-wise, but large as far as story content. I enjoyed this story so much. It took me to a point in history I’m not familiar with and made me feel like I could “see” it all. The images were well written and every scene felt fully described.

Olivia’s father dies, leaving her just enough money to make a trip to meet and marry a man she’s never met. Cort, her intended, has no idea he’s to wed her until she arrives. Then, family maneuvering wreaks havoc on the situation. But when the pair is stranded together, they find their own way to a solution for their current situation.

I enjoyed this story, not just because of the historical aspect, although that was told so vividly I feel as if I’ve had a fabulous history lesson along with my entertainment, but also because the real pleasure in this story comes from the characters and their relationship. Olivia is a character who pulled at my heart. I wanted her, alone in the world, to find a place to lay her heart. I wanted her to find love. Cort is tender and touched me thoroughly with the way he dealt with Olivia’s physical limitations. He is a compassionate hero.

This is a well told tale and I very much enjoyed reading it. It is the first thing I’ve read by Jennifer Mueller but it hopefully won’t be the last!
