A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Your Wedding by Cindy K. Green is one of those stories that you read, but never forget. I know it will come back to me at odd moments, when I least expect it to.

Kari Montgomery has promised her cousin Emily that she’ll be in her wedding. But as the wedding approaches, Kari regrets her decision. It only reminds her of her own failed engagement, her own heartache and pain. But there’s no way out of the commitment, so she takes a train to the wedding, her suitcase in hand. She’s got only an hour to spare before the ceremony, when the taxi is caught in traffic and she’s forced to run the rest of the way to the church. Of course, almost as soon as she steps onto the sidewalk, it begins to pour. Kari stumbles, dropping her bag and book into a puddle, but she doesn’t fall. A strong hand reaches out and saves her, and she meets a handsome stranger. At the wedding she realizes the stranger is no stranger, but someone whose role in the wedding is very, very important!

This book is well written. Interesting and lively, it doesn’t gloss over the trials and tribulations people who meet and fall in love have from time to time. I especially liked the way this story highlights the fact that even those we hold in high regard are capable of hurting others and asking for forgiveness. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Your Wedding is not a single moment in time, the one incident that took place on the rainy sidewalk, but a story that is strong enough to carry the reader forward, throughout the things that happen after a first meeting. I don’t want to give away the nuts and bolts of Ms. Green’s tale, but I will say that I am hoping for a sequel. The characters are strong enough that I want to know what happens to them after this! Well done!
