My Angel

Simone Porter is sick and tired of her nagging mother, her supposed fiancé telling her how she should act and dress, but most of all the attraction she feels for the man she rescued. It was 2006 when she first set eyes on Matthew and since then, she has come to fall in love with him. She knows it is not right but she can’t help the easy relationship she has with him. Simone thinks Matt will never be attracted to her because her nagging mother has instilled in her head that she is overweight and no white man would want a black woman like her. Each day she tries to be the perfect daughter, but sometimes just being with Matt she feels free for that time in her life, not suffocated by her mother’s rules. Is this just friendship with Matt or can she stop thinking of her mother’s words and just be herself and allow herself to fall in love with a man who shares the same feelings?

She is his angel and has been since his accident. It was her voice that brought him back to life and now Matt wants her for more than just a friend. He knows that he failed his father when he divorced his wife, but he couldn’t take her cheating anymore. Simone is a woman who has brought a breath of fresh air into his life, showing him that just being friends is not enough. Matt wants more than just friendship but is afraid that he will push her away. Can he prove to Simone that she’s his to keep and to love forever? Or have their families brainwashed them into giving up on finding the love they need in their lives?

Two words that describe Denise Skelton’s work are wow and sweet. It has been a long time since I found a book that wasn’t so much about the sex but instead all about the romance. Denise Skelton created a beautiful tale of one woman’s struggle to overcome her mother’s constant belittling and a son’s time to push away his father’s constant interference in his life. I fell for Simone, for here is a woman who is not overweight but her mother has sunk her words into her head, making her insecure. As for Matt, he is a man we all wish for; he is patient and knows romance. One more thing I liked about these two is that they are great friends but both want the forbidden, the romance and attraction that is arising between them. Great job Denise Skelton.
