Wildflowers

Ryan Major is on a mission after his brother, Chet, is killed. He feels if he had been at the warehouse instead of the saloon, he could have saved his brother’s life. Now Chet’s wife, Sara, is a widow and his children fatherless. Ryan feels a responsibility to care for his late brother’s family. Working out a deal with the foreman of the trading company, he is hired as a trail guide for the minister and his group, as they set out to Oregon. After the trail is completed, he intends on finding Grizzly Dugan and making retribution for Chet’s death. One thing he never intended was finding love in the arms of the minister’s daughter. Johanna Wade is happy to be joining her father on his mission. Her mother died giving birth to her and for the time being, she has been in Boston with her Aunt Mabel. Seeing her father again is a joy in itself but more so when she sets her gaze on Ryan. But traveling with a younger minister, Stephen Green is someone that Johanna would rather not be around. He is under the impression he can get Johanna to marry him. Johanna wants nothing to do with Stephen. The only man she wishes is Ryan. She knows he is not a believer of the truth but there is something about him that draws her to him. Ryan has a mission to find his brother’s killer while Johanna is holding strong feelings for Ryan, unable to actually confess her true desire for him and afraid for what her father might say. Now the two must face their toughest choices amidst tough obstacles.

Wildflowers is a magnificent tale that captures the whole essence of the American west. From hardships to Indians, to horse-covered wagons, this is a poignant tale that is full of spirit, dangers and life. From one man’s vengeance, to a woman’s love for a man, as she overcomes fear to tell her father whom she wishes to spend her time with, this story captivates. I applauded Ryan as he sought peace for his brother’s family. I commended Johanna’s resolve to stand on her own two feet and be the woman she feels she should be. Catherine Greenfeder crafts believable characters with unique characteristics that make the story feel genuine. The secondary characters spin a great part to the story, some with their own romances and events that make the story more in-depth. This is one incredible read that shouldn’t be missed. I admired the strength and determination of all the characters and the great love that was shown throughout the bitter times.
