In order to save her kingdom, Princess Katerina must marry. Her uncle is poised to take control if she does not marry, and Katerina has put it off far too long. When she meets a handsome duke, Katerina is very attracted to him and cannot help but compare other men to him. As the two become better acquainted, someone is willing to do whatever it takes to prevent the princess from continuing in her official position. Katerina begins to doubt Dax is who he says he is and if he is involved in the plot to remove her from the throne.

Dax will do whatever it takes to save his people, even seduce Princess Katerina. He thought it would be easy, but he never expected to have feelings for her. There are forces at work to keep Katerina from ascending to the throne. As things between he and Katerina heat up, Dax must work to figure out who is trying to eliminate Katerina. Dax must also deal with the lies he has told and how they may impact what he has found with Katerina.

Brenda Williamson’s A Beautiful Surrender is a very entertaining book. Dax and Katerina are charming characters who will delight the reader from their first meeting. The chemistry between Katerina and Dax is explosive as they fall in love. Ms. Williamson, has created the perfect blend of intrigue and romance as Dax and Katerina try to find out who is trying to eliminate Katerina as possible queen. I enjoyed how each had to overlook their preconceived notions to find out who they really were.
