American Dreams

Doctor Matthew Frank is a well-known sex therapist. He spends his days helping couples and individuals, then spends his evenings with his wife and their twins. As a sex therapist, he knows the tricks to keep romance alive in a relationship; variety and honesty are the two main pieces of advice he tells people about. It is to that end that when he found himself attracted to his secretary, he talked to his wife about it and was amazed but happy when she allowed him to start up an affair with her. However, the bliss can’t last forever, and soon a dark cloud appears on the horizon in the shape of his first love, Mona.

Although American Dreams is not the typical romance book, it is in some way an intriguing look into the lives of three people and how their different strengths allow them to happily co-exist. This is a book of many twists and turns, and the reader will constantly be surprised at what occurs next. Although books written in the first person are notoriously difficult to write, C.S. LeMone has produced a book that was a joy to read; as a reader I found it very easy to get inside Dr. Frank’s head and follow him around. Due to the nature of Dr. Frank’s profession, it is a book that touches on a great deal of different sexual issues, but they are all talked about in a sympathetic way that progresses the storyline.

I really enjoyed reading American Dreams and found the changes and surprises intriguing. This would not be a book I would recommend to anyone who dislikes reading frank descriptions of sexual techniques and issues, but for those who are interested in such topics, this book will definitely make you think. I doubt any reader would be disappointed by it. Mr. LeMone has created a wonderfully textual piece of work, and I will most definitely be looking out for more of his stories.
