Creatures of the Night, Creatures of Delight

Blue Murder by Emily Veinglory

Bern is a legally registered Vampire who has a bit of a crush on one Kerry Carter, a police officer who also happens to be an unregistered werewolf. A murder has been committed, and Kerry needs Bern’s help to solve it but there’s a problem: someone is out to get Kerry, but neither of them know who it could be.

Blue Murder is an interesting story that goes into the way ‘otherkin’, supernatural creatures such as werewolves and vampires, are dealt with compared to ‘normal’ humans. Prejudices abound, and the reader will see how life takes its toll on these two particular otherkin. This story is m/m, and although the scenes have been written delicately and with great grace, they might not be to some people’s tastes.

Things That Go Bump In the Night by Lucynda Storey

Tyler Crocket has wanted Summer Donaldson since she first got the job on the ranch, but something held him back from saying anything. Soon, she was seeing Scot Johnson and became forbidden territory. Now, she is leaving in five days and he might never get the chance to declare his feelings. Summer finished with Scot over two months ago, but he still seems to have some sort of claim over her and Tyler is determined to find out exactly what it is

Things That Go Bump In the Night is a story of love conquering all and of bravery in the face of adversity. Lucynda Storey has taken a simple idea and run with it in a very interesting direction, producing a well thought out and fast paced story that readers will love.

Walk Through Fire by Laura Baumbach

As he has done for over a hundred years, Caleb Archer walks a familiar path to a very familiar crypt. There, as before, he will fight a demon. Unlike all the other years, however, this year he is determined to win and free his love no matter what.

Walk Through Fire is a heartbreaking story of a never-ending love, and is filled with emotion and loss. The reader will easily be able to sympathize with the main characters. Although I loved this story, the m/m theme should be noted for fans of that genre.

Devilish Good Time by J.M.Snyder

Jacob doesn’t quite know what he’s doing at the fraternity Halloween party; he’s about to head for the door when the guy he has a crush on backs into him. From that moment on, the night takes a few interesting twists, and both Jacob and Bobby experience something that will bring them a lot closer to one another.

Written in the first person, Devilish Good Time is a story of an urban myth come to life. J.M. Snyder takes the readers through a series of twists and turns using various techniques to unsettle the reader. The m/m theme runs strong throughout the story and the readers will be able to follow the budding relationship between Jacob and Bobby.

All the stories in Creatures of the Night, Creatures of Delight could have stood up on their own, however, altogether the outcome is a book that will delight and thrill readers, taking them on a journey exploring some of the many different things that go bump in the night. The m/m relationships are quite prevalent in the book and so readers who are uncomfortable reading stories with such a theme may be best to stay away, however those who read this book will not be at all disappointed.
