Heather Spencer lost her mother five years ago and last autumn her father died leaving her penniless and deeply in debt. She has to resort to what means she can to settle the debt even by selling all her family possessions. Unfortunately, the largest debt her father left was to Madam Allison, who is relentless when it comes to pursing her money. She knows Heather is worth her weight in gold and within six months, Madam Allison assures Heather her debt will be paid. Heather has always lived her life as a respected lady and working for the austere Madam is not something she enjoys, especially when she is forced to deflower herself to pay the huge debt. Drew Kennedy owns half of one of London’s most successful shipping companies and money is no object to him. He is not in the habit of visiting brothels but this one day, while he is on a business venture, he and a friend visit the brothel where he encounters the lovely Heather. He can tell that Heather is not seasoned like the other women but he finds her quite fascinating. When Heather doesn’t seem to be a willing participant, Drew knows she doesn’t belong in the brothel. He proffers her a proposition to buy her from Madam Allison and take her to America to become his mistress. Heather faces new obstacles in America, not only with adjusting to the new surroundings, but discovering an ex-fiancé of Drew’s that Heather feels may still be a part of his life. Drew is faced with his own problems that could arise if Heather’s past is revealed causing a rift in both their lives. If they wish their love to succumb to the greater love, they must cease the whisperings.

Promise Me Forever is a most enjoyable tale. I thought the characters were refreshing and the sensitivity shown between Drew toward Heather was quite admirable. He is an exemplary understanding brave person and I could feel the passion the two expressed when they were together, if only through words. Heather exhibits so many layers of emotion that shows her strength and determination to get past the many shadows that have transpired in her life. Ms. Nee pens a smooth flowing read that captivated me from the start. She brings out some great secondary characters that add depth to the storyline. I find this read full of elegance and sophistication that is definitely a page-turner.
