Waryn Landelle, Duke of Lysky returns from a battle ready to kill his aunt for the amount of people who are in his castle. He’s tired and he just wants to spend time with his son, not deal with all of this madness. He finds himself drawn into the Valentine’s tradition of “sweethearts for a year” when his aunt insists he participate. For a year he must wear the name of his sweetheart, Miss Sibil Carlisle, on his armband. Miss Sibil is vaguely familiar to him but he cannot remember why.

Miss Sibil took care of Waryn three years ago after a battle, and she needs a favor from him now that she is in contact with him again. At the end of the year she will become a nun, but her utmost wish is that Waryn will love her as a man loves a woman. She wants to take that memory with her to the grave and she wants that man to be Waryn.

Miss Alwin does a superb job of bringing these characters to life. Sibil was in a position where I wanted to smack her whole family, but Waryn is the perfect one to take care of the situation for me. Not wanting to believe in love he was the perfect person for Sibil’s angelic ways. Historical stories are not my cup of tea but this one really caught my eye. The characters were complex and the storyline was very real. Waryn was also having to deal with family problems and the ending was absolutely perfect and a very nice touch. Here is a story that will make you believe that true love will find you in the end. A great short read!!
